Biography of

Rev. Mark A. Toney, Senior Pastor

Rev. Mark A. Toney was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He is the oldest son and the second child of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Toney.

Rev. Toney received his formal education through the Cincinnati Public School system.  He attended Kirby Road Elementary School, Schwab Junior High School and graduated from Aiken High School in 1977.

Rev. Toney officially joined New Unity Baptist Church in 1968 and, accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized two years later by the Rev. A. A. Freeman.  While under Rev. Freeman, Rev. Toney accepted his call to preach at 14 years of age.  He presented his first sermon on June 2, 1974.  Both the late Rev. Freeman and the late Rev. Lockett were early role models in Pastor Toney’s life.

At the age of 15, while still working on his formal education, Rev. Toney walked into the Temple Bible College and started his theological training under the guidance and leadership of Rev. Calvin Harper.  Rev. Toney was one of the youngest students attending Temple Bible College at that time.  He had a deep desire and yearning to learn and study God’s Word.  Rev. Toney became a long time scholar and student at Temple Bible College.

Rev. Toney has received many certificates and honors, some of which include his Bachelor’s Degree of Divinity, Associate Degree in Church Administration, and Certificate of Evangelism.

Rev. Toney was installed as Pastor of New Unity Baptist Church in June of 1980.  As Pastor, Rev. Toney has been a phenomenal leader, teacher, counselor and preacher.  In September of 1980, he married First Lady Carandal Kay Toney.  They have five beautiful children:  Mark Jr., Michael, Marquis, Manuel and Mikayla.

Currently, Rev. Toney is the host of the Brighter Day Ahead radio broadcast.  The show is aired on Sunday at 2:30pm and Monday through Friday at 1:30pm on WCVG 1320am.

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is not searching of his understanding.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 40:28-31
